The Biggest Loser Meets The USMC

I use to watch The Biggest Loser all the time. The first five or seasons, I was addicted. While very unrealistic for the average person at home, the numbers put up were always inspirational.

To be honest, I haven’t watched the past few seasons. It’s pretty much the same show. New people, but the same stuff. Two of the things that really bothered me was that the sponsorships, and hidden promotional stuff got in the way of what was important—the health of the contestants.

The gamer attitude by some bugs me as well. I know, it’s a contest. It’s also edited to put some in a bad light. Again, this gets in the way of what should be the focus.

This weekend it was announced that TBL was going to be heading to Camp Pendleton to workout with the United States Marines (Ooh-rah!}.

Can I be frank? Of course I can, it’s our blog. Seriously though, this is not a Marine workout. This is a scaled back session that is not going to be any harder than what they normally go though.

One of the contestants is a former Marine. I’m sure he’ll get a chuckle out of what they’re put through vs. what real Marines are put through.

I have to tell you though, it does have me curious. If I don’t have something more important to do, I may watch—although unlikely.

Oh I love this show. I only started watching this season, but I am addicted, and don’t miss it. Of course, my DVR picks up any that I may miss.

Todd, what made you not like the show after watching for so long?

I’m with Todd on this one. I watched a few seasons, and always found it motivating. I guess I just got bored with it. It’s always the same thing. The one season that I really enjoyed over the others was when Kim Lyons and Bob were the trainers, and Jillian lead the black team. Three teams battling for those coveted spots was exciting.

@Anne, one of the things that really bugs me about the show is the constant selling of products. It’s a business, and I know that advertising is what pays the bills (have you seen those little banners to on the right side of the screen?). It is just a constant bombardment, and got in the way of what was going on. One of the other things that rubs me wrong about TBL is the lack of focus on fitness for the “every man/woman”. What you’re seeing on screen is a group of people living on a ranch full time. They are exercising, and eating, under strict supervision. You or I will never be in a situation, for that amount of time. That is the sole reason that you see the numbers put up, week in-week out.

Then there is the “American Idol Fade”. You know the little teaser that they have before commercial, and the recap of all that has happened before the commercial… argh, it’s all annoying! But I digress. hahaha

@Tim, I agree 100%. That was my favorite season of all. Jillian is cool, but I was a fan of Kim. Plus, the three way team battle was a great twist on the season. The whole black ops team of Jillian-it just gave a cool twist. As I remember, her team won that season too.

  4. I’m getting the game. Like I need to lose more weight.

  5. You should have said “No you don’t, Julie. You look great!”

No you don’t, Julie, you look great. Sorry about that… my bad.
