No Agony, No Bragony

Know your limits. It’s ok to push yourself. I’m all for setting new Personal Records (PR), but if you just end up hurting yourself, the whole point is defeated.

That old adage of “No pain. No Gain.” is very dangerous if you don’t listen to your body. I once strained my rotator cuff because I didn’t listen. Luckily, with a little rest, it healed.

Becca wasn’t so lucky, and ended up with a slight bicep tear and shoulder surgery that put her out of the gym for nearly a year.

Strive for that next level. Just don’t skip a stair to get there, or you just might trip yourself up.

  1. Hey Todd, too funny! But very true – I see a lot of meat heads at the gym doing stupid things you know they’re gonna pay for at some point. And we have all done it to some extent. I was training for a 15K and “skipped a stair” as you say. I’m still paying for it 7 years later.

This is a perfect example of today. Did I get hurt or beat myself to a workout pulp? Nope. Because I didn’t workout today even though I was scheduled for it. Sometimes I give myself a bigger pat on the back for listening to my body and NOT working out, opposed to going real hard and sweating all over the damn floor.

@Susan, There are a lot of guys that think that they know what they’re doing, and are too stubborn to find out. Sorry to hear about the injury lasting this long. That’s pretty much how my shoulder was as well.

@Yum Yucky, Josie, don’t be afraid to sweat on the floor. It’s nothing that a towel can’t fix. :) If you’re body is telling you to take a day off, then you did the right thing.

  4. I just told another blogger it’s time we get back on track. I’ve let my crazy life and new job take me all over the place and my body isn’t how I like it. We’re pledging to do at least ten minutes (the super hula hoop) on the Wii Fit every day and more if we have time. I don’t know what took me so long. That thing got me hot enough to start a website.

@Julie, get on it! ;) You have kind of a crazy life, but you should be able to carve out 10 minutes a day. Keep us posted on your progress. Are you still running Wii Mommies?
