World Cup Mania

What country do you support in the World Cup?

Every four years the world comes together to display sportsmanship-and to rule the world. This isn’t the Olympics. We’re talkin’ World Cup! Football to the world. Soccer to North America (minus Mexico).

As far as sports go, I’m a fairly new fan of the beautiful game. Right after the last World Cup, our two darling daughters decided that they wanted to play soccer. We ran right out and got them signed up.

It was an entertaining spring. We proceeded to watch many games of 8 and 9 year old girls running around a field like a swarm of crazed bees. Apparently, they didn’t know anything about the game.

The girls had a great time that spring. Right after the season ended, I got a phone call. It was the director of the division that our oldest girl would play in if she wanted to play that fall. They had enough girls to field another team, but had no coach. Nobody else was available.

This was an opportunity to help some kids learn what it means to be on a team, and get some good exercise. There was just one problem-I played for one season as a kid. I didn’t know squat about the game.

Off to the internet. I did tons or research on FIFA. The rules. Formations. Basic strategy. Everything that a budding coach could want to learn. But how to use it?

About a month before the league started, I took a weekend course on coaching. I was now licensed. Look out!

We didn’t win many games that season, but it was the start of a great team. We had many girls return the following season.

Not only had I  become fan of the game, but so did my wife and kids.

The World Cup is back upon us, albeit with some annoying horns.. The excitement of the games has me intrigued, excited, and entertained. All because of the last World Cup, and two of my favorite girls in the world.

Are you watching the matches? What country do you support?

That’s a great story. I’ve been a fan most of my life, and live for the WC every 4 years. Honestly, I have more fun watching my kids play than I ever had playing. Could help that they’re better than I ever was. hehe

I am not having much time to follow all the games but I am supporting Germany during this world cup.
