Climb to the top of the world
The sun breaks over the horizon. There is a slight chill in the air. There is a welcoming silence in the air. Rows of seats rise before me like a snow covered mountain peak poking through the clouds.
My muscles are warm. I’ve fueled my metabolism. The journey of thousands of steps begin with a grunt. Touching every step on the climb to the top, my legs burn from my glutes to my calves.
Nearing the top, I begin to prepare for the descent. It’s all downhill from here, but I’m not quite sure that it will be any easier.
Yeah, running the bleachers at the local high school stadium is one hard workout. I look forward to it on the way–hate it while in the process–and love it when completed.
If the weather isn’t cooperating, or you don’t have access to a football stadium, there is always the stairway in the local “high rise”. You may not live in an area with a 100 floor building, but I’ll bet that there is a five story building somewhere—or even three.
Running stairs is more work than running on flat ground. More work means more calories burnt. More calories expended means more fat loss. Hoofin’ it up stairs is just what the doctor ordered.
If you begin skipping stairs, you can improve the length of your stride. Will this make you faster? It certainly isn’t going to hurt–well, the running might hurt, but it’s a good hurt, so no worries.
A good pace, touching every step, going up and back down. This is the key. It’s cheap, very effective, and will whoop your butt into shape.
