The Real Truth About 6-Pack Abs

The secret of six pack abs

I bet that I receive an email, Tweet, or spammy comment here (Askimet weeds most of them out) claiming that they have the truth. They want to reveal the truth about getting six-pack abs. Little do they know, but I know the secret. I know the truth.

I’m going to save you some money. Are you ready? Are you sure? Ok, here it is—everybody already has a six-pack. Seriously, you have abdominal muscles.

So what’s the secret that these marketers are trying to sell you? Simple, you have to shed belly fat to reveal those abs. You can do thousands of crunches a day, and if you have a keg, you won’t see those ab muscles.

Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym.

I heard that a number of years ago, and it stuck with me. It doesn’t get any simpler than that. You can do all the ab/core exercises you want. What you’ll get is a very strong core. Don’t get me wrong—that’s a good thing. But, if you don’t have your diet in check, that mid-section just isn’t going to get ripped.

Be honest. Think back. Ever seen a fat person with well defined abs? Of course not, because they’ve got a thick cookie layer.

This of course isn’t to say that it is diet alone. Exercise is a key component to burning fat. It’s just not the big secret that the marketing geeks keep trying to sell you.

So now you know the real truth behind 6-pack abs.

I need desperately to get in shape. I’m approaching 40 and OUT OF SHAPE! So much so that everyday tasks are hard to do and sometimes breathtaking. I want to go to the gym, I feel better after I do, but gosh it is so hard to just GO. Any advise?

@Hans, I do have a suggestion for you-don’t go to the gym. Get some resistance bands, maybe some dumbbells, and get to work. If you’d like a great exercise program, check out our personal training services.
